I saw some video of this guy who'd been arrested and it about made my blood boil. He's up there all proud of how he acted, saying that he only got arrested because he was "black in America," and he'd do it again. He thinks he's some kind of Civil Rights hero.Let me tell you something, you Pinhead: Rosa Parks was a hero. Martin Luther King Jr. was a hero. Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Booker T. Washington, and Frederic Douglas were heroes. You sir, are a racist. You are not interested in equality, you are interested in preference. You are hurting the very cause you claim to be for and you are crippling minorities in America.
Your kind of thinking is what's killing our inner cities. The idea that everyone is out to get you, that the white guy will never allow you to succeed anyway, so don't even try. You're not bringing anybody together; you are tearing us apart, and you are doing no favors for the black community. You, Sir, are the enemy, and I do not hesitate to say it. You are not a victim, but you are creating victims by your ignorance.
And let me just say something else: You claim to be for the cause of black Americans. African Americans picking cotton on plantations till their fingers bled 150 years ago would have killed to be in the position you're in right now.
The rights and the priveleges you enjoy today because hundreds of thousands of men, black and white, died on the battlefields of the Civil War were only pipe dreams for them. They would not be wallowing in self-pity. They would be taking full advantage of every opportunity to enjoy freedom.
And if there's one or two idiots out there who hate you because of your skin color, what on earth do you care? They're idiots! Ignore them, work harder than them, and watch them eat your dust.
Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King would not be proud of you, Sir. They would be ashamed of you. Your mindset is what is killing black America.

Initially, after reading only the headlines on this story, I was inclined to your point of view. But, as I read more about the situation and considered it further, I realized that this isn't a cut and dry situation.
Sgt. Crowley, Professor Gates, and President Obama each do not appear to be racists. The facts, as they are now, do not lend themselves to that view.
I agree with you that Gates actions have hurt the cause of minorities. But, his actions are somewhat understandable. Gates spent much of his life suffering under inequality in America. He did not respond to Sgt. Crowley in a racist way. He responded in accordance with what he had experienced in the past. Was he right? No. Understandable? Yes.
These couple of posts were written initially after the incident took place. I can understand why this is a sensitive issue to some because of the past. What I resent is Gates setting himself up as some kind of civil rights hero for being an idiot. He is hurting the cause of those who are actual victims. You could say he lost his temper, pure and simple, but if you go back and research this guy's history, he is quite the character. I think it's pretty safe to say he's a black nationalist in the vein of Jeremiah Wright. So while more details have emerged now, I stand by my initial claims. I could be wrong, but we'll see.
